Community Service, Performing Art, Cooking, and Handwork!
Over this past term our community has continued to focus on community service as well as refining their skills in performance art, cooking and handwork.
During our drama lessons, the students practiced using the four elements of expression through a series of skit work and to learn how to read and perform with a script. This work was followed up with a trip to watch a traditional Balinese Sahadewa Barong and Keris dance at Batubulan where they observed the strategies and tools professional performers use to create an entertaining and spellbinding show.
Following this work, using the skills they had learnt, the students produced and performed a successful end of term production of The Wizard of Oz in which the children were responsible for memorizing lines from a script and for the design of the set, props and costumes.
For our community service work this term we spent a morning preparing meals for local school children at the Ragam foundation. The children worked happily and hard preparing 500 lunches in just a few hours!
All of the children’s cooking and handwork skills were also put to work creating a large variety of holiday cards, ornaments, jewelry and baked goods for a student-run fundraiser to raise money for rubbish bins and pick up service for our local field, which we use for our weekly PE lessons. The fundraiser also provided an opportunity for the students to put their math skills to good use! The children did a fantastic job performing and creating and selling their wares to support their local community.
We still have limited spaces available for 6-and 7-year-olds. Please contact us if you would like to find out more about our program and visit our space.
